Autumn

Autumn One

This half term  our topic is Dinosaur Planet.  Beware! Leigh Primary School has been invaded by dinosaurs.  The children went on a dinosaur hunt in Forest School.  We found and identified lots of dinosaurs.  Some of the children took on the role of a paleontologist to excavate dinosaur fossils.

Science

The children  had fun identifying dinosaurs that were  herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.  We used the information to create a venn diagram.

Cornerstones Express

Year one went to Think Tank Museum as part of their express to learn more about real dinosaur fossils.  We learnt lots more and had a lot of fun!

Autumn 2

Year One's topic this half term is Memory Box.

In this topic we are taking a trip to the past to discover what life was like at the time when we were born.  We will find out how babies change and grow over time.  We will use photos and objects from the past to help us remember special times like weddings and christenings.   we will talk about our families and share happy memories of people or pets who are no longer alive.  Learning about the days of the week and months of the year will help us to work out how long  we will have to wait for our birthdays to arrive!  We will decide how objects from the past were used and have fun learning games, songs and dances from the bygone days.

Instruction Writing.

We have been reading 'Paper Dolls' by Julia Donaldson.  We have been learning about imperative verbs. The children  read and followed instructions to make their own paper dolls.

The children have been making sandwiches in preparation for writing their own instructions on how to make a sandwich.  The children chose some unusual fillings for their sandwiches, such as jam and cucumber and cheese and jam!

We practically sequenced the instructions on how to make a sandwich.
