Spring 2

Tuesday 27th February 2018

Year 6 are reading an extract from ‘A Monster Calls’ by Patrick Ness for their guided reading work, in preparation for World Book Day on Thursday.

Wednesday 28th February 2018 - Hands On Science Workshop

Today, Year 6 were lucky enough to have a work shop from 'Hands on Science'. During their session, they learnt how eating healthily can affect their heart and why we should think carefully about what we eat and its effects on the body. We also discovered how much fat is in a crisp by burning one and seeing the fat drip off it - eww! Finally, the children got to hold, feel, explore and dissect a lamb heart to see their internal structure and help them understand how they work!

For the rest of the day, the children did activities relating to the heart and the circulatory system - what a great day!

Thursday 1st March 2018 - World Book Day

For World Book Day 2018, Year 6 got into the spirit of things by dressing up as monsters, the theme for the day! During the day, the children shared their favourite stories and books with each other, created their own monsters and described them. In the afternoon, they took part in a quiz with the erst of Key Stage 2 about the book we have been reading this week, A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.

Thursday 22nd March - Year 6 kick off Sport Relief!

To begin Sport relief in school, Year 6 had an afternoon of outdoor silliness! Rotating between three stations, the children took part in a variety of physical activity related activities, that ranged from traditional sports day events (like egg and spoon and the three legged-race) to more unusual activities (like racing pretending to be a chicken, a robot, or any other obscure creature we could think of!). It was lovely to see the children smiling and enjoying themselves after a hard term working hard for their SATs.

The children also created fact files of their favourite sports personalities and teams, as well as some sports related art.

Monday 26th March 2018 - Art

To do something different other than SATs revision, Year 6 tried their hand at some landscape art. The children saw some demonstrations on the Interactive White Board and then tried to draw their own versions of it. Don't they look great!

Thursday 29th March 2018

Today, Year 6 have been enjoying a variety of Easter related activities, including making Easter cards and silhouettes of Easter bunnies. The winners of the Easter egg competition were also announced, although all the entries looked fantastic!
