Oracy - Voice21

Leigh Primary are thrilled to be part of the Voice21 journey - they are supporting us to develop children's oracy skills to enhance speaking and listening. Oracy is the priority at Leigh Primary and we are committed to make sure it is at the centre of everything we do for the children.

Oracy is the golden thread woven into everything we do; it underpins all elements of our school vision:

Leigh Primary School strives to be a community of lifelong learners, relationship builders and memory makers. To achieve this, oracy has valued the voice of every child enabling them to be confident communicators with the aspirations to become whoever they want to be.  In turn this improves life chances, supports children to use their voice for success and prepares children for the next stage of their education and the wider world. Not only will it provide children with academic success, it will support children's well-being, enabling them to express how they feel.

Voice 21 has provided Leigh with lots of different resources to support our children to develop these necessary skills. It is important we set expectations for speaking and listening, therefore we have implemented listening ladders and discussion guidelines across the school, from Nursery to Year 6.

Are your children talking about 'Talk Tasks'?

These are tasks specific to an event taking place in the world where children have the opportunity to discuss further. Why not try these talk tasks at home to spark some interesting discussions! You will be surprised how naturally your children will use their talk tactics in conversation!
