RE

Today we explored the concept of fairness and justice through the Sikh story of Bandi Chhor Divas.

Children said:

'The Guru was sent to prison because Chandu was jealous of their friendship- this was wrong.'   

'The Guru helped the other prisoners despite what had happened to him.This was his act of kindness.' 

'He was still fair towards the other people and shared his food with them.'

No outsiders

Children looked at the importance of not discriminating against anyone using the story 'This is our house' by Michael Rosen and Bob Graham. This was used as a starting point to create our posters to show how 'Everyone is welcome at our school.' Here are some of our posters:

Maths-Capacity

Children had lots of fun making magical potions. We followed instructions to measure in ml. Then we looked at the different potions to compare the capacities of different containers. We used our key words to help us to compare: full, nearly full, half, half full, half empty, quarter full, litres and millilitres.

We have been looking at where in the world Fairtrade products come from. We identified the countries on a world map

Cornerstones-Innovate Board 

As part of our 'Innovate' stage for our topic we carried out activities from the Innovate board. We tasted different flavoured smoothies and wrote our reviews.

Cornerstones-Express stage

 

Parents were invited to make a fruit salad with their child for our ‘Express stage’ of our topic. 

The children were really excited to share everything they had learnt about their topic, including the nutritional benefits of eating fruits.
